Leave-Taking By Cecil Rajendra
The presented poetry piece "Leave-Taking" has been composed by Cecil Rajendra. He had drawn the authentic as well as live picture of the relation between a lonely grandfather and his only friend, the grandson. But the death of grandfather separated them. The poem can be summarized in following ways: -
*** Only way of joy - The poet says that the grandfather who was eighty years old, had only one way of his joy. He used to say that the friendship between his grandson and him was spreaded across. It was just like a bridge among eight decades and three generations.
***Spiritual attachment - Cecil Rajendra says that their friendship was founded on spiritual attachment. They would Laugh, play, quarrel and embraced. Both of them would watch television programme together. ***Grandson the chatterbox - The poet says that the grandfather always regarded his grandson a chatterbox. It was because the little fellow was a fountain of endless chatter.
***Death of grandfather - One Sunday morning the grandfather died. People, relatives and neighbors rattled the house. All of them trumpeted their grief in loud sobs, tearful blubber or loud words.
***Leave-taking - Finally the grandson arrived but he never shed a tear, he just waved one of his small inimitable goodbyes as usual he used to take short leave. No one could imitate the boy.
